The Pillars of Authentic Communication

Published on 29 May 2025

In a world where everything moves fast and misunderstandings can arise at every turn, authentic communication becomes a true relational superpower. But what does "communicating authentically" mean? And how can we achieve it in our daily personal and professional lives?

1. Active Listening: making yourself truly available

Active listening is not simply hearing. It means being fully present with the other person, without immediately seeking to respond or interpret. This requires suspending judgment and creating a safe space where the other person can express themselves freely.

A few keys: asking open-ended questions, rephrasing to show you have understood, and allowing silences... which enable the essential to emerge.

2. Sincere Expression: speaking what is true for oneself

Being authentic also means knowing how to express oneself, knowing how to say who you are, knowing how to confide. This requires courage and clarity. It is not about saying everything, but about sharing what is important, while taking responsibility for your emotions and needs.

Using "I" is a good entry point: "I feel...", "I need...", "I wish that..." instead of "You never do...", "You must..."

3. Benevolent Intention: cultivating the relationship

Communicating authentically does not mean being brutally honest. The intention is just as important as the message. When we speak to nurture the relationship, to better understand and connect with each other, language becomes a tool for bonding, not separation.

Sometimes, this means postponing a conversation, stepping back, or simply recognizing that you don't (yet) have the right words.

A Daily Practice

Authentic communication is not a gift. It is a practice, a subtle art that refines with time and intention. Every interaction is an opportunity to adjust, learn, and grow together.

"The quality of our relationships depends on the quality of our conversations."

What if, starting today, you made every exchange an opportunity to create a true connection?
